All the neighbors were in our un-air conditioned apartment because we had a Magnavox Console Color TV/Radio/Turntable!

When they landed and Neil came out, the video was in B&W and with the bight moon surface it was hard to make out his silhouette, we all started turn8ng our heads sideways to almost upside down trying to understand what we were looking at

I do remember the party in our apartment went on a long time after the landing celebrating the event.

I suppose the party was long especially so as many of the adults were WW2 vets and related to JFK initiating the effort any a few years prior.

I was 5 and very excited because my dad worked on the Apollo program in California- we all watched together on the TV. I felt a child’s sense of pride that somehow this had something to do with where my dad went to “work”.

As a side note, my dad was classmates at Georgia Tech with John Young, (who passed last year) and they stayed lifelong friends. The last time he was out visiting my dad he said that they had such unsophisticated technology back then it really baffles many that they reached the moon.

I remember seeing it on TV with all the family around. We were glued to that TV.
And then remember.."Tang, the drink of Astronauts" hit the stores and we just had to have it cause..."that's what the Astronauts were drinking".
