Food, pet food, super market stuff, about 1K a month, though a bunch is Costco stuff, so it rolls over to the next month because of the quantity. Food and stuff is expensive here.

$700 for two people is pretty tight, imo - especially if you're entertaining. I'd say for two people who entertain, closer to $1k might be a lot more comfortable. Like other singles above, I spend somewhere between $375-$450/mo. for food/household items mostly at the organic coop and items in bulk from Amazon - that doesn't include supplements which probably run another $400/year at least. I don't drink at all so alcohol isn't a factor. I have virtually no medical expense, take no medication, so am more than happy paying more for food and supplements. Rarely eat out these days. When I do, it's costly at fairly high-end restaurants, but I categorize that as entertainment money, not food money.

Gee, I feel "underdressed" in this thread.

I spend as little as possible for the two of us, selecting healthy options with a few "comfort " foods ( mac &cheese, pasketti, etc.)

We arent fully retired yet, though i am medically retired on SSDI and working ocassionally.

I spend a whole $30/week...yes THIRTY dollars a WEEK ON food at the grocery store.

That doesn't include the rare bottle of wine ($8.99), nor does it include household items such as soaps, tp or Kleenex, paper towels and the like.

Nor does that include the rare eating out, usualoy once a month. Try to keep it at $10-15 for two meals with AARP discount. Even if they dont accept AARP, we ask and usually get a senior discount as we are both over 55.
Often even a discount on an already discounted senior 55+ menu.

So yeah, i feel like a cheap b**tard. Or am i a cheap date?? Im cheap something!

I didn't realize I was splurging compared to others. I spend about $400 a month for myself which includes whatever I buy at the grocery store including household items and pet food. I was going to treat myself to a large porterhouse steak and shrimp tomorrow (home cooked) but now I feel guilty, LOL.

They said food only.

My 25 dollars does not include my monthly dog food treat delivery, cat litter, cat food, cleaning products.

What my roommate spends monthly at SAMS for the feral cat colony we feed etc.

Or the little Coronas we like to relax with every now and then.

I know retired people that eat at restaurants at least twice a day. Nothing fancy.

But why cook at home?

I'd do it also, but feel guilty.

Who am i kidding. I'll buy bagged salad, some tomatoes, dressing and call it a day.

About $1100 per month. We eat a lot of organic and try to eat locally raised meat and produce which is a bit more expensive.
