In a bit over a year I will be 62 and can claim early SS if necessary. I have a small pension where I work, and savings. But it is scary, because I know once I make the leap there is no going back. I can't get the same kind of job with pay, I would not fund the pension and I would not have tax differed savings through the pension. Were you scared to retire?
Yes, but I was 65, not 62. I had wanted to make it to FRA age, but just couldn't. As a teacher, that would have meant another year's commitment if I wanted to do right by my students. I did make it to Medicare, though, which I think is important.

No, I was not scared. But I was fed up with the poop I've dealt with over the years. It was a relief to leave it and I knew I had enough gumption to come out OK. No, not well off, but kept my sanity.
I retired at 74. I thought I was ready. I wasn't scared. I should have been. I liked my work. Everything associated with 40-some years of work (if you don't include the service), vanished the minute I walked out of my "farewell" party.
Yes. I retired early at 58 and was unsure if I had enough money. My house was paid off. It turned out that I did have enough to retire comfortably and take vacations because my expenses were low and I was debt free.

I'm the opposite. Not worried about money, but not looking forward to the prospects of not having a job to go to, not being busy or challenged and to a certain extent missing out in the informal socialization with coworkers. Money? I could lower my standards. Hobbies? None that would occupy 8 hours a day.
I suppose I could be a unpaid professional City-Data Forum poster at retirement time.
