This is my next to do list. Lots of photos I need to sort out, and slides too.

Nope! Just sitting on a shelf in the garage. Kids don't want them and I have no desire to look at them.

Physical photographs? I own one of my wife and I from a long time ago and a file folder with pics of cars I used to own (I check Barrett-Jackson/Mecum or google a VIN now and again to see when they turn up. 50% hit rate so far). I did scan a couple of boxes of my sister's hoard of such things, a handful of great pics, mostly rubbish.

I'm totally cool with doing a decent scan and proper backup and no paper photos at all.

It's funny to think how insanely overphotographed modern people are due to cell phones. Between that and commercial and government surveillance it's a new era.

True. Everything is caught on some sort of camera these days. I had to give up my guerrilla tactics for dealing with vagrants.

Yes, but I need to do it again. A few years ago I went through about 80 boxes of slides and scanned them onto DVDs and gave a copy each to the kids and grandkids. They were mostly pictures of the kids growing up. They all loved them.

And their kids (and their kids' kids) will appreciate them even more.

When my Dad found out that my husband could scan sides, he gave him several boxes of them from the 1950s through the 1980s. What treasures! It took DH a long time but everyone loved them and occasionally I pick one out and put it on FaceBook. All the family members have copies.

DH is gone now but I told him it was one of the best gifts he gave our family.

You can also rent slide scanners.

For example

Rent-a-Scanner

Or simply take the slides to a commercial place that does it professionally.

Absolutely! As a matter of fact, DW & I are going to Ireland next month and just this morning she pulled out an album of photos from our last trip 15 years ago and we spent a bit of time drinking our coffee and reminiscing as we turned the pages.

Something else that is a LOT of fun to do is to recreate poses THEN and NOW. Below, the slide scans were taken in the late 1950s, early 1960s. I replicated them 40-50 years later.
