What she may be looking for, is a reassurance that the vaccine has undergone extensive safety & efficacy testing, in order to help her with her decision. How the epidemiology looks for 'no one in particular' won't be relevant.
That is not what Roselvr asked. She asked how they figure efficacy.

They do know the incidence rates without the vaccine.

Please read the thread title before posting. This is not a general discussion thread on vaccines, shingles, flu, herd immunity, or the CDC. Or homeopathy. Thank you.

I had a sore arm for a few days, my husband had a headache, but no sore arm.

Be aware that many states are having a huge shortage on shingrix vaccines.
Our pharmacy has 400 on it’s waiting list, and none of the other local pharmacies have the vaccine.

Also worth noting you don't have to wait at all at some doctors offices, but places like Walgreens all have a 6 month wait.

It fits in Retirement because shingles vaccinations are highly recommended for seniors.

Shingles mainly caused me deep itching and occasional sores on my back. Zostavax did nothing for me. The night after my second Shingrix shot was one of the worst I've ever spent. I had a fever and not a minute of sleep. I didn't think it had worked very well, but a year later, I realize that the itching and sores are gone. So perhaps you have to be patient about the results.

Check with your doctor if they even give the vaccine or if they have it available there. My doctor told me I had to get it done at a pharmacy. She said they do not stock it. I've seen one or 2 people that had to pick up the vaccine from the pharmacy to have their doctor give the vaccine in order for insurance to cover it
