Hi. My FIL collects social security but we had to close the account where the SS was being direct deposited to because someone was hacking his bank account. We have opened up a new checking account with him in another bank and we switched the direct deposit to this new bank, however, this won’t take effect until the October 2019 payment, which leaves September 2019 direct payment with nowhere to go . Does anyone know if they SS will just mail a real check to his address for September 2019 ? TIA for your help.

I had something similar occur. We had written a Fathers Day check to one of our sons and his wallet was stolen. We had to cancel that account and open a new one. The bank did it while we were on the phone with them. We had to notify SS, pensions and investment accounts. However the bank was redirecting all deposits to the new account for 90 days while the transition occurred. It was all like clockwork and Wells Fargo as always was great.
