Mine was The Road Less Traveled by M. Scott Peck.

The first sentence is "Life is Difficult"

And it is. But you can survive.

From Wikipedia:

The Road Less Traveled begins with the statement "Life is difficult".[7]:13 Life was never meant to be easy and is essentially a series of problems which can either be solved or ignored. Peck wrote of the importance of discipline, describing four aspects of it:

Delaying gratification: Sacrificing present comfort for future gains.
Acceptance of responsibility: Accepting responsibility for one's own decisions.
Dedication to truth: Honesty, both in word and deed.
Balancing: Handling conflicting requirements.

The thing about honesty is so hard. I still remember the last time i told a lie. Now i just don't say anything if i can't tell the truth - lol.

It was Healing the Child Within. Charles Whitfield.

Whether we realize it or not, we all harbor baggage from our childhood.

It teaches to look, organize your adult reactions to things based on childhood.

It's a good read. I insisted my OH read it, and my OH devoured it, and it did a world of good.

The same author has a book about setting healthy boundaries.

Very good reads.

Codependent No More written by Melody Beattie.

This book helped me a lot when I was in a big struggle with life. It helps to show how to stop controlling (or trying to) others and put the focus on yourself.
