Retired Singles moving to??? (55, weather, communities, state)

It amazes me--with all the work I have done on the net--that I cannot find out which cities have the most single retirees. Not the old 80 year old geezers like in Florida, but the 55-70 y.o. types. I know many are single, but there is not one study that I can find that tells me where they are moving to when they move. Does anyone else have any information on this?

Thanks for posting this question; I'd like to know the answer also as I'm considering relocation.

Currently, I reside in the Grants Pass Oregon area. GP has a large retired community and there seems to be many opportunities to volunteer. I belong to a computer club that has over 900 members, with about 100 attendees at each weekly meeting. The fitness center has three indoor warm pools and all the amenities you could want. In the summer there are lots of activities and the Rogue River offers recreational opportunities also.

Having lived 40 years in south Florida prior to my move out west, I miss the warm winters and ocean breeze; therefore, I'm seeking a coastal Florida city where a single retiree would find the best lifestyle. There seem to be a lot of choices which would be expensive to check-out in person. That's why I love this forum!

I didn't find worthwhile info on the board retiringsingles.com, myself. If I find anything at all, I will post it, but doesn't seem to be much out there for us singles. Found stuff for single RV'ers, tho...all looked to be 70-80ish, tho.

Somebody on this forum is always posting rumors about how the Villages in Florida is some big swinging singles den of iniquity.

I have no idea how true this might be (you know how rumors are) but I'd guess it means they have a big population of singles. Worth checking out, anyway.

Now that tidbit, normie, might do more for their sales than those commercials with Arnold Palmer and Nancy Lopez!

Seriously, though, if I were single and of the opposite gender, the last place on earth I would go is a Florida retirement community. My inlaws used to live in one and the women outnumbered (more aptly, outlived) the dudes about 2 to 1. (Come to think of it, it would be a veritable gold mine for the 55-70 yo single male!)

I would pick a vibrant arts and education city, e.g., New York, WDC, Boston, maybe Miami or Atlanta, but certainly not somewhere off to the side of Ocala.

I am surprised AARP cannot provide ample data for such queries. You would think they would make it their business to keep track of these folks.

I would look at cities that might be interesting to you ANYWAY, and hopefully you will find singles of like mind. (there are plenty out there...)

Consider desirable, progressive (mixed age) places with colleges that cater to adult learning, and have other activities that get people together often. I would think Prescott, AZ, and the many AZ 'golf' destinations...(if you are into that...) or Lexington, Kentucky; Ft Collins, or Colo Springs, CO, or various places in Hawaii (out of tourist zone, with more residential influence). I know little to the midwest and east places of choice, as I just visit there when the weather is to my liking. (Sept-Oct and April - May)

Do you have a list of criteria - post-retirement?
Some want stable weather, other 4 seasons; some travel, some gardening, bunko and being a 'home-body'.

I like all that stuff, and my only most significant requirements are reasonable real estate (price AND tax); a place to Lap swim and good library; mild 4 season, with cooler (non-sticky) summers (I'm from west and NW, and don't particularly want to depend on AC). I do like more than less sun, and want to be within 1 hr of an international airport for occasional getaways (Plus I have ~ 500,000 airline miles to use up)

I am not single, but I am researching places to retire. It's possible that you are familiar with the magazine, Where To Retire, but I am posting this because the magazine does feature articles on where to retire if you are single. The magazine is sold at bookstores, many libraries have a subscription, and they have a website. I pulled three old issues and here are some of the articles:

A back issue actually listed cities that are best places for singles, but, unfortunately, I cannot locate the issue (and if you saw the clutter in my house you would understand why!) Hope this helps!

I did check on The Village in Florida awhile back as have a couple I have known for ages move there. Not that many singles there. And the idea that The Villages will give me ample opportunity to fool around with geezers in their shorts...not so pretty an idea..haha!
