problem is, you need to start investing when your young, but how many young people want to do that?

The problem is that even if you do invest when you are young, the average person does not earn enough to sustain a decent retirement for years and years with any sort of inflation protection. The whole self-directed economic theory has collapsed and been proven wrong.

Stop worrying about retirement. Enjoy life and make every day special. Did you know that the average person dies within six months of when they retire?

If that were true the Social Security Trust Fund would be over flowing with money. Hey if half die within six months they aren't collecting SS after that. How do so many people live into their 70'S and beyond at that rate?

I saw a show about different retirement options on PBS that followed several types from life annunity to 401K. Bascallly the difference between the life annunities and 410K was how it was managed. The annunity were managed by the company or a fund. They also are pretty conservative in investments. Most annulties were were the company put nothing into the retirement until the retiree retired and doubled the amount at that time. The aim was a overall gain of 10% per year with some years being lower and some higher.Of course the doubling made that a much better return. These annunties came out better unless the person with the 401K was active in managing the risk and paid attention;if the company matched. The main problem shown by two different employees was when one left teh risk in growth stocks at higher risk especailly has it got to a larger amount and got closer to retirement. One had a good retirement and the other really got wacked by the markets.
