SINGLES who live in adult communities.......
The idea of living in an adult community appeals to me because of the opportunity for making new friends and the availability of activities within the "town"; however, my research indicates that couples are the majority.
I was wondering if there was any way to ascertain what adult communities have a larger population of singles? (I'm partial to Florida)
If you are single...... and reside in an adult community.... can you tell us about it?

Only know from my parents when they lives in Leisure Village (Long Island & New Jersey) that there are lots of single people there also (don't have percentages). They have monthly dances (one for those with partners and one for those without partners so you get to meet people).
I knew many women when I visited my parents that got together to do things and also to enjoy holidays together since they lived alone.

Larger communities seem to have larger percentages of a variety of people (single, married) - am not familiar w/ a lot of 55+ communities but I know The Villages has a ton of activities geared to couples, singles, people from certain areas, occupations etc - you can join as many or as few as you like. If you can keep up with everything <G>, there's also health centers you can join, sports (golf, softball etc), hobbies as well as trips, cruises etc - whatever floats your boat (no pun intended ;-) ).

We have met quite a few singles living across the street in the Trilogy/Vistancia adult community in N. Peoria AZ. They all sound very happy and very busy with the activities provided. It is a very "young at heart" place to live with some very classy places to eat and taste good wine. When our son finally gets a good footing, we plan on moving across the road to be with our people.

Hmmmmmmmmm........ ?
It's only been a couple of weeks since I initiated this thread but, so far, NO singles living in adult communities have responded. Perhaps they are out and about enjoying their lifestyle too much to communicate?
Well, I'm still hoping some singles, who actually live in one of those Over-55-Communities will give us the "real scoop" on "LIFE AS A SINGLE, IN AN ADULT COMMUNITY"

I am a retired single who lived in a 55+ adult community for 4 years in suburban Chicago area. First group event I attended, I was the only single! The married couples didn't even sit together. All the women at their tables and the men at their tables. Was so strange I never went back.
Did finally move out and would not go back into that kind of place. Currently i live in a small gated lake community in NW Illinois. We have a wide variety of people living here from the retired group like myself to young people with families and also part timers who are here on weekends in the summer. The retired folks have a very active social calendar. One can participate or not. A very relaxing lifestyle. so i guess each single person really has to decide for themselves what they want to do in retirement. For me , life out here is very good.
I just hate the winters like everyone else. Too cold with too much snow.

Coney, you did read "Leisureville", right? It sounds like The Villages has a very active single community. A friend of a friend (male) just moved there recently and is having a GREAT time, dancing in the town square, giving dance lessons, hosting get-togethers in his new home, etc. Have you been able to get any info from singles on the Talk of the Villages message forum?

As we get older, the number of single women rises dramatically. An over-55 place is likely to be full of women, widowed, etc.
My sister bought an over-55 condo when she was barely 55, expecting a sort of Club Med. She found a lot of much-older ladies. Good quiet place, though.

This will probably happen in a dramatic fashion as we baby boomers age, just from our sheer numbers. The demographics will force it.
