You will get your first check in June. I am not sure of the day, but they do have an exact schedule. Mine is the second Wednesday because my birthday is early in the month. Yours might come a little later, maybe the fourth Wednesday because yours is so late in the month. It's worth waiting for.

Misconception on the retireing date. Originally it is designed for age 65 to receive Medicare.

You can retire at 65 or not at all if you wish.

It is possible to collect benifits at 62 plus with reduced benifits. I did and prior to reaching 65 was notified that I would be eligible for Medicare Plans A & B at that point in time.

Go to the nearest SS office and you can get a booklet that explains how the Reduce amount works.

Some people want to stop working or continue working part time for various reasons at 62.

I had my own business and with the small amount coming in allowed me to slow down my daily routine and relax a little til I was 65.

This may not be for everybody...it worked for me and I have no complaints.

As for the check...in my case I got 3 months at one time until they started to come in on the 3rd of the month on a regular bassis.

Recommend that a person have "Direct Deposit" with a bank of choice and save the mail hassle.

Good Luck... Steve

I turned 62 on 1/24/09.
I get my 1st payment on the 4th Wednesday of March.
The way it was explained to me was, you don't get benefits for the month that you turned 62. You have to be 62 for the entire month.
Thus my benefits don't start until the month of Feburary when I was 62 for the whole month. They don't pay in advance so the check I get in March will be for February, and so on.
And yes, direct deposit is the way to go IMO.
