I always wonder how much harassment I have to put up with later if I do something like this.

Just don't put your phone number in. You can also unsubscribe online if they do bother you. So far I haven't heard anything from them I just got the book.

If the phone number is a required field, and most of the time it is, I just put in 111-111-1111. Their software program is usually just looking for the right amount of numbers, not what those numbers are. I don't suggest making one up that's realistic looking or some other poor guy will get phone bombarded. It may disqualify you for a freebie but if you are purchasing something, no one is going to turn down the money because you refuse to give them a real phone number.

Q: What was the biggest trick perpetrated on the American public to secure millions of cell phone telephone numbers?

A: Giving up your cell phone number so you could be texted with then candidate Obama's VP pick. The Democrat Party got a pretty big list for soliciting future year campaign donations for all kinds of elections, national and local.
