An AARP membership will get her a magazine and newspaper with info any senior can use.

Actually AARP's magizine is full of political articles and sales pitches from AARP and others than any thing else. Senior living is one ;as is retirement living.

I hope you're not saying it wrong to support the seniors political agenda & needs.

No, he's just letting the OP know that it is not what most consider to be a "magazine" in that it has fewer general interest articles than others.

it's not wrong to support senior needs...however, AARP is extremely left leaning in all their articles, politically, etc.

It also depends on what your mother's interests are - a lot of "senior" magazines focus on certain segments of older adults, particularly the well-heeled.

As a "senior" (well, almost) who doesn't golf, doesn't take cruises, wouldn't be caught dead in either Vegas or Branson, I'd rather read a cooking magazine or a travel magazine that might not focus on my age group but does focus more on my interests.

My mom used to love Reminisce. I loved Country, Country Woman and Birds and Blooms all by the same publisher. Mom also loved Taste of Home. The first is more related to senior memories- lots of things from years past. Not very many current senior issues though. The latter are not specifically for seniors but are just beautiful color, lovely scenes and interesting articles. A good boost for the spirit to have them show up in the mail box! Great gift-type subscriptions.

My mom also enjoyed Good Old Days and crafty magazines like Crochet and Crochet World.

Thanks, molly. I am a magazine lover and I had never even heard of any of those. There is MORE , but that is really for women in their forties, not for someone who is sixty-two as I am . I do read the AARP magazine , but it only comes a few times a year, not even monthly I don't think.

I wonder why there aren't more magazines for us. There are so many of us, after all.
