People who have jobs that do/did not pay into social security-retirement is affected adversely? Single? How can we live?

... a month is not so that I can keep my favorite doctors and have no deductibles. I pay co-payments, deductibles, Rx's, and have the cheapest plan that they offer. I get one trip to the Opthamologist a year to check my eyes as diabetes runs in my family history, and I have no free eye care. I also pay for the dental insurance I have, and it is at the worst clinics ever, but it is insurance. I have pre-existing health issues, so I can not just give up my medical insurance and shop around. You should be aware of this.

... I don't think you read my post carefully, or you would see that I was on disability, and did not retire at 55 because it was a dream of mine. I was forced to retire or be fired, as they did not want to keep me on the books-even though I was receiving disability at the time. There is a difference here ...

I was forced to retire due to my old age. They called it 'High-Year-Tenure'. I was 42 when I was forced out.

My mother died a month ago. If she had needed to, she would have been welcome to live with us.

... I have about 4 quarters or a little less to make up before I have 40 quarters in at Social Security. At least then, I will receive something when I get older ... I did have a life and a job before I worked at the police department. S.S. tells me that I have paid enough in to qualify for Medicare, so I don't have to worry about that.

I do not live a charmed life, never go out to eat, if I buy clothes they are from Target or Ross, and there is no where I know where I can get a two bedroom apt. for the two of us for $550. a month or less, ghetto or not. I am also single, so have no better half to help with things....or grow old with. Of course, all of these things are my fault, and I take responsibility gladly. I was just trying to share my story, and it seems that I have to defend my story and my reality all the time.

We each must deal with our own circumstances.

You obviously don't read what I have posted, so I will no longer be posting here. I have not insisted that I want to guilt trip anyone. You got what you wanted, the last word, and being an expert on everything. I quit dealing with people who are like this when I left the world of law enforcement. There I was being paid for it, now I am not! You are now being avoided by me and my posting automatically, so prattle on for others to enjoy. I am done here.
