Default a place with no fleas ?

We are starting to make a list of requirements for the place we finally retire to in a few years. On the list is a place with no fleas. I really don't like using pesticides on my pets and yard just to keep them at a minimum as we do here in Texas. Do we have to move to the North Pole to escape them or is there an altitude or climate in which they don't flourish?

Colorado - too high and dry for them.

There is always something. In maine I went into teh woods and the biting blasck flies and the mosquitoes almost carried me away. Same in Alaska many palces. Bugs galore.

As I start to plan for relocating, I realize I face some major choices. Fleas just does not come close to being a factor. Healthcare, cost of living, climate, neighborhoods and a dozen other factors seem much more important. I am actually looking forward to a time with no pets so that travel is more convenient.

Fleas don't like cold climates. In WA there are fleas only for about 3 months a year.
I use a lot of natural remedies in my home to deter them, but I use poisions outside because my home backs up to a forest and the local critters drop them off in my yard. That means they could be carrying disease.
I spray on a hot day, notify the neighbors, confine my pets and make sure there are no vessels in the yard that could possibly hold any of the spray water.

No fleas here in Alaska. Different story with the 'skeeters though, and on the warmer days the biting flies can be a problem.

The tropics are out because there is no freeze. Spray for those horible things once then spray a perimeter every week regardless what the chemical says.

Are you gonna let your pets dictate where you will retire?.....

Take charge of the situation. We did and never did we have fleas on our pets.....

When I was stationed in San Diego, fleas were a important factor. Now, I'm up here in Wyoming and I can actually say that I've never seen one up here. They might be around, just haven't seen a single one.

Probably the same deal as in CO. Too high and dry for them.

To each their own. Some of us would rather not have to expose ourselves and our pets to toxic chemicals if we can avoid it. For some, it is important enough that it would be a criteria for place to live. Nothing wrong with that. For you, perhaps not.
