i will have to ask the city to deferred property tax, potted meat and cracker would be too expensive, may have to eat raccoon, rabbits and wild mushrooms and acorns.
I will lose a portion of my retirement when I hit 62. I am retired from the Federal Gov't. So I will take my SS at age 62 to compensate for that loss of income. I work part time now 3 days a week, I will do the same when I hit 62. I will be just fine.

monthly income from a retirement plan~ $620 / month. Stock market drop did take away another portion of my retirement but am still good~ planned pretty well.
But to answer that question I really have no place to go if I lose everything~ cause if I'm lost~ a lot of other people would also be in the same boat.
Would you have a place to go, or would you have to live in a cardboard box and eat potted meat and crackers?
There are other alternatives. Live as frugally as possible on Social Security and get a second job. There is subsidized housing based on income. Many seniors in this country live on Soc Sec alone. (I still have only a 19" tv in the livingroom). The result of that lifestyle is ~
Like ConeyIsBabe, my husband and I live well below our means because we are thinking of our future. Unless a giant asteroid slams into the earth, or aliens invade and attack, or Yellowstone blows up, we will be ok.

We're currently living on both our state retirements and my Social Security. My wife starts drawing her SS next year and we still have my, as yet, untouched IRA and a small investment account and other savings.
Since we're moving back to "God's Country" in MO in less than two weeks and I'm an expert marksman, a decent fisherman and my wife's a seasoned vegetable gardner and canner, we'll eat!
