Default AARP Insurance

Does anyone here have first hand knowledge of the AARP supplemental insurance? My husband and I will be covered by our jobs until we retire but then will need to cover what Medicare doesn't. I have been inundated by AARP with information about the coverage they offer, including regular health insurance in the event of not having coverage through a job but am not sure how to acurately compare the supplemental coverage to that offered by other providers. (Whew, long sentence!)

when my mother went on medicare she signed up for the aarp suplement.
it did help her alot. she was in canada with me, and broke her hip, and they paid her to come back to the us for surgery. they also payed a certain amount while she was getting better. she never had any problems with them.
