so it seems now that were are in our last year of living in new york city we find ourselves appreciating it more and more. we went in to the city which is about 15 minutes from our home and went to see a broadway show. we took a little point and shoot camera with us and shot away.
actually with the right settings and techniques even the little point and shoot produced very nice pics. not as good as our pro gear but so close.
Yep;not my bag either like any city. i guess if its in your blood its likie livng in a small town and trying to change tho.Different strokes for different folks really IMO.
Great pics, brings back some good memories! I've only visited a few times, but would go back in a heartbeat!
One time we did the Broadway cram thing, 3 plays in one weekend, the year "Producers" won all the Emmy's, too fun! My friend had connections so we were able to get tickets, not an easy task!
Every time I've left a place, I've acted like a tourist at the end. Or been feted by friends so much that I wonder why I'm leaving. It's just part of the leaving process.
And you can always visit.
I also felt jammed in and crowded just looking at the pictures! Then, I've felt that way when visiting NYC for all it offers.

I lived in Manhattan for more than forty years, always in neighborhood just a ten minute subway ride from mid-town, or for a few years in a neighborhood just below 34th and Third. Up until about 1992 I truly enjoyed it, but by that year the cumulative changes in the City had eradicated the city I loved and I was no longer happy to be living there.
I left with absolutely no regrets, though I think back on my first thirty or so years there with great relish and fondness. But that city has totally vanished: the old neighborhoods, the lifestyles, the affordability, the thriving Broadway theatre of dozens of new plays and musicals every year, etc. Even if some architectural reminders are still there they exist in a much different New York, so I have zero inclination to visit
And I have to agree with what others have said: too crowded. I like smaller, more gracious cities now. Lisbon suits me to a tee....Dublin too; Barcelona is as busy a place as I want to be in.
when we go to our home in pa its just sooooo rural in comparison and we do like that... its funny though, marilyn and i were born and bred in new york and lived in the outer boroughs all our lives... we rarely would go to manhattan even though we are 15 minutes away... the hassle of driving or taking the train, the parking issues etc were such a turn off.
now that we expierienced pa life its like when we are back at our ny place we look at in a different light. we have hit more museums and shows in the last year then in our entire existance.... since we got into photography we just enjoy going places in the city....figures now that we are leaving it right?
we went to the cloisters 2 weeks ago. its the medivial wing of the modern art museum.. it was nice but its incredible what it cost at city museums.
we paid 40 bucks for the 2 of us to get in, 15 bucks in tolls and about 10 bucks in gas...
the bronx zoo was 12 bucks to park, 48 dollars to get in for 2 people, 15 bucks in tolls and 10 bucks in gas.

today its rainy here in nyc so we are headed to photograph the new york aquarium.
The cloisters are one of the most difficult places i have shot yet. its dark with bright lights coming thru stained glass or slits in the castle walls. its photography hell.
what you are seeing consist in some cases of as many as 7 different phots each with different exposures merged into 1 photo. its the only way of capturing the pictures so things arent washed out or very dark .
most of the exhibits were donated by the rockerfellers... thats the george washington bridge in the background overlooking the hudson river.
