It's not from the perspective of an older person but with a younger person trying to find friends with similar interests in a cluster of older people their parents' age. I retired at 55 and saw the difference right away. There are some very intelligent active seniors where I live, 65 - 85. As long as we're doing the thing that brought us together, it's fine, but in casual conversation we're on different planets. I just couldn't imagine what it would be like for a 45 year old.
Nothing wrong with 45 hanging out with a 25 year old.
So how many Overseas or Combat Bars is that on your sleeve
I wear silver dolphins;
a silver patrol pin w/3 silver stars and 1 bronze star
[the pin denotes one patrol, each silver denotes 5 and each bronze denotes 1];
National Defense Service Medal;
Kosovo Campaign medal;
Good Conduct Medal w/3 bronze stars;
Sea Service Deployment Ribbon w/3 silver stars and 4 bronze stars;
Overseas Service Ribbon w/1 silver star;
Expert Rifleman Medal;
and Expert Pistol Medal.
On my sleeve I wear 5 gold service stripes [one for every 4 years of service]

The writer Pete Hamill, a very handsome successful writer, when in his 60s stated that he was no longer going to date the hot young things he could have on his arm "because I was tired of explaining who the Brooklyn Dodgers were."
Haven't you done a good enough job of hijacking the thread yet?
Agreed, but I'm ignoring it today in honor of everyone who served, "decorated" or not.
