( why did so many guys enlist in the Air Force or Navy to escape the draft into the Army or Marines during Vietnam )
How many months would your 18 "Combat tours" put you deployed in a Combat Zone?

Nothing wrong with 45 hanging out with a 25 year old.

My 17 'patrols' were each between 95 and 105 days each. My 'deployment' was 36 months.

Sea Service Deployment Ribbon w/3 silver stars and 4 bronze stars;
Overseas Service Ribbon w/1 silver star;
Expert Rifleman Medal;

On my sleeve I wear 5 gold service stripes [one for every 4 years of service]

I guess the Navy has no equivalent of the Overseas Bars worn on the right sleeve which indicate six months in a Combat Zone

The writer Pete Hamill, a very handsome successful writer, when in his 60s stated that he was no longer going to date the hot young things he could have on his arm "because I was tired of explaining who the Brooklyn Dodgers were."
