We are retiring, looking for housing in Escondido or Oceanside. Need to be near an artist community - galleries, classes, etc. Any ideas about the "mind set" of these communities would be appreciated. We'll buying a single family residence not living in a retirement community.

Thanks for input.

Go to Oceanside, the weather is milder (warmer winters, slightly cooler summers) and the people are also very artsy there.

Actually, the San Diego Board in the California Forum would probably be the best place as this question if you haven't done so already. This forum is fine for pure retirement issues but for lay-of-the-land questions, the state and local boards are usually much handier. Best of luck!

I agree with posting in the San Diego forum.

Escondido can get pretty hot during the summers. Oceanside can be quite cool during the winters.

Oceanside and the coast south of there has long been an artsy sort of place. Escondido is now nurturing a posse of artistic types.

Can you come for a visit, and check them both out for yourselves?

The original post was made 4 years ago and the OP never returned to our forum as ar as I know; odds are he/she won't see our suggestions.
