That does sound interesting texasfirewheel. This time of year I find myself looking out at the birds too. I've got some kind of bluejays hanging around my yard this spring. Every year I get a couple of hummingbirds that live in my yard during the warm months. All the birds can be great entertainment.
I haven't put out any bird feeders but I'll see if I can find something to feed them.

I hope those crows will just find somewhere else to go

Water, particularly a dripper, is a great way to attract birds without the expense and mess of seeds. I've got a small multi-tiered fountain in back that attracts hummingbirds and cardinals. A small birdbath is a favorite of wrens, sparrows and robins. During dry spells, I'll also get visits from the chipmunks, squirrels and rabbits.
In the front of the condo, I've got three hanging baskets. A dove has built a nest in the middle one and has hatched several chicks.
It's amazing how much wildlife there is at a condo in the city. There is a creek on the property and some wild areas behind the property so that helps. I'm going to go looking for tadpoles this spring for my water gardens.

I'll continue with what I do now - scuba, cycling, skydiving and volunteer activities.

I have been retired for over a year now and widowed for a year and a half. I always thought I would enjoy doing some type of metal art or working with wood, I tried those things but my arthritis was getting me down, I have problems with my neck when I look down or up too long. I still enjoy playing guitar and I've just gotten back into photography with a new digital camera. I guess it doesn't matter what we do to pass the time as long as it's enjoyable, the other thing to consider is the question of health vs our wants, can we keep up the physical side of our hobbies? Just maintaining a home is quite a chore as we age, it doesn't seem like I'm much older until I go out and do yard work or try to get into big projects outside. To live this last part of life we'll need to come to terms with our disabilities, I work around mine, and I go to a gym to keep what is in shape, in shape a little while longer. In general, I think there is way too much emphasis on "activity" for us seniors, it's as though we just can't sit still for a moment lest we be "vegitating" lol. Living a routine life is a bit easier foir those Women who were married for years and did the house work and raising the kids, men can be thinking that their retirement will be one long vacation, when really it's time for them to be getting on with the chores of everyday living. I wake up every day glad that I'm still alive and reasonably healthy, many of my contemporaries were not so fortunate.

Amen, jerthrber. I remember a thread on this forum started by someone to complain that his/her retired parents watched TV all day long. Although they enjoyed watching TV, the son/daughter was bothered by their "inactivity". The consensus was that retirees should spend their days doing whatever they want to do (or not do).

Since I have absolutely no interest in "Senior Work Activities", everything I do is a "Senior Leisure Activity".
