Why "NO" red meat? That is fanaticism. How about much smaller quantities of red meat? Say, a few times a week? When I was a child in the 1950's it was common to have red meat three times a day. That was clearly excessive, and unhealthy - there is no argument about it. But it is absurd to speak of red meat as if it were poison; early members of our species were hunter-gatherers, and they hunted red meat. That was the diet on which our species was formed. Of course the hunts were not successful every day, and so the consumption of red meat was not a continuous thing, and should not be now. But I do not understand the all-or-nothing mentality.
Why NO red meat? Because it works for me ! My personal choice ! The result is having normal cholesterol, blood pressure, ETC. without having to take drugs. Fanaticism ???? LOL ~ LOL ~ not to me ! Normal weight @ 125 lbs and not having to take drugs at my age of 72 is something I take pride in and in no way consider it fanaticism more like being smart

CIB - Don't feed the trolls If it works, it works. Your business and you share for FYI. More people need to keep their own contradictory opinions to themselves.

Default Disagreement not the same as trolling

The whole point of forums is for people to exchange information and opinions. It is totally preposterous to suggest that people need to keep their own "contradictory" opinions to themselves. That suggests that opinions which agree are O.K. but opinions which "contradict" are not legitimate for sharing here.

Your application of the word "troll" to me is equally preposterous. If there is anyone completely unlike a troll here, I am that person. Ironically, your post is troll-like because it is a personal attack and is inflammatory. Please reflect on what it is about disagreement which sets you off so. My wish for you is that you find some inner peace.

If it works for you I am all for it. I, too, have low cholesterol and normal blood pressure without drugs, and I eat red meat, but not in excessive amounts. I was under the impression that you were recommending no red meat for everyone. I would consider that fanaticism. Indeed you should take pride in what you have accomplished.

I'm unable to do aerobics (bad back & bad knees) but I do eat oat bran about five mornings a week, cooked in Rice Dream, with walnuts and raisins, cinnamon, dash of Agave Nectar and seasonal fruit. Coffee with Chocolate Almond Breeze (instead of milk or cream).

My breakfast tip for staying young & healthy in retirement

There are other threads i.e Debate; Politics etc...that are appropriate for that sort of thing. We have various threads here that are for "cordial" discussion. Calling CIBs decision with what she does & doesn't eat finaticism is a personal attack in my opinion. We all have had plenty of "inner peace" and would appreciate it if this and other threads would remain that way. This discussion is over.

It sounds rather arrogant and dictatorial to say "This discussion is over". And I note you have appointed yourself spokesman for everyone here ("we all"). Have you tried Yoga? I recommend it for staying young and healthy in retirement. Just my opinion. Is it "contradictory" if someone has already said they don't like Yoga? I mean the recommendation in a most "cordial" way, i.e., that others are free to disagree with it.

Default I agree 100% with Umbria!

I'm glad to find common ground with Umbria. We both don't like "that old sourpuss, grumpy, compaining, judgmental, close-minded" attitude. Well said, Umbria!

I'm starting with weights after talking with a trainer who knows about my health condition. She also suggests the trampoline, which I already do but not vigorously and long enough. Will report by Labor Day!
