"For years we've explored the difficulties of cancelling telecom services for the deceased. We've seen AOL go so far as to tell relatives that the deceased individual needs to call up and cancel themselves, though more commonly it's just a pain to cancel the deceased person's account unless you have the proper paperwork (sometimes the death certificate, sometimes it's a copy of the account holder's bills or lease."

I think we all need to keep a copy of one bill and write on it, "Please cancel because I died." Sign it and let your family date it. Keep them in with the wills and mark the folder, "To Be Taken Care of Immediately!!!"

I wonder how they will react to a note from a dead person?

We had no problem getting our mother in laws horizon account cancelled at all.Of course the funeral home did a notification that horzon could check on the internet which made it very easy to cancel all her accounts. Discover even gave her credit for a partial cash back on lessor amount than normally required to credit it.

Lots of things are easier when you know the rules of the road. Death notices serve that purpose also don't they?
