I think we watch more TV now... it is on early in the morning to check on markets and since we venture out less at night it is often on. Not used mid-day.
It may be it is on more but I use the computer in front of it now while in the past the computer was in the study so I may not really 'watch' more.
I probably watch less tv now than I did when working. I read a lot more and am on the internet occasionally. Also there is a lot more to do here outdoors than in the midwest where I came from.

Watch tv? not really sure~ I do know the tv is on most of the day every day! We have no qualms of walking out of the house to go to center or shopping and leaving the tv on... if you talk to cops you will find that most burglers will change their minds if the tv is on as this seems to be a signal that someone is home~ but as far as watching it I can't say I do...ps, my tv is on right now~ in the other room where noone is at the moment!
When I was working I didn't have a TV for many years. Now I watch an hour of news a day, and we have a channel called Mezzo, which is endless classical and jazz - top stuff, so I watch it randomly, maybe five hours a week.
We watch the news in the AM for about a half hour and one or two programs in the evening. Not sure if it has to do with being too busy or the terrible programming. I do know the increased amount of repeated commercials and advertising has made us hit the OFF button quite frequently.
Not yet retired but let my "special deal" on TV lapse and so have no cable at all and don't miss much as TV programming has become such utter crap, frankly. Further, when I try watching something worthwhile on the other channels, they are now playing commecials at the bottom of the screen while the show is going on....the last straw, so I basically flipped the bird to TV. They need ad blockers for TV like they have for the 'net.

From June Better Homes & Gardens:
"Each daily hour spent watching TV poses an 18 percent greater risk of dying from cardiovascular disease, according to a new study published in Circulation, a journal of the American Heart Association. Unlike other studies, this one examined TV's impact on people of healthy weight and no history of heart disease. Couch potatoes who spent more than four hours a day watching TV had a staggering 80 percent greater risk of death from cardiovascular disease."
We watch more TV because we are at home in the evenings instead of working the swing shift. I am a big fan of TCM, Discovery Health, The Learning Channel and Classic Arts Showcase. DH loves news programs, documentaries on PBS and MSNBC.
We both read voraciously and have about 1200 books in our library, so our brain cells are not completely fried from all that TV.
Both of us had jobs in the television industry, so I guess we don't consider watching TV to be such a bad thing -- after all, it paid our salaries!
