Default Moving In Cranston

Hi, I've lived in Cranston now for a little while and am moving away from Pontiac Ave. I don't want to live in Western Cranston, I want to stay in the more suburban part. Was just wondering where some nicer areas of Cranston are?

I've looked at a neighborhood up on the hill near Atwood near Plainfield Pike and Johnston and I can tell that is a nice area - but are there any others I am missing?

Price Range is up to $250 K, but I don't need a huge place. We don't have kids and are not planning on it, so two bedrooms 1 1/2 baths is plenty.

Thanks in advance!

Default Thinking of RI

My family and I moved to Charlotte, NC last summer, and we found that it is really not for us. We have lived in the NY, RI and Ohio, and we really like RI. I think some people badmouth their state because they want to keep out the hordes of people who end up moving to cities in NC. We lived in North Kingstown, but I used to work in Edgewood, and I like that part of town. We have two teenaged boys, ages 13 and 15. I am a high school math teacher.

I am interested in finding out more about your home, and if it is for sale.

John

Hi John,

We have a house for sale in Warwick. It is a 3 bedroom, 2 full bath house located across from the water. We also have another house located on the same lot that goes with the main house. That could either be used a rental property, and in-law, an office or whatever you would like. The home is located in a nice neighborhood and has been completely renovated, it icludes a front porch, large deck and pool. We are relocating ourselves. If you would like more information you could call us at 401-739-3596. I would at RI hospital and cut through Edgewood everyday, we also love to spend time in Pawtuxet Village. Good Luck!

Carol

Hi My family and I live on Long Island, NY. We are looking into transfers to NC or RI. I am just curious what you did not like about Charlotte. That is one of the areas in NC the other is Raleigh (Cary)?

Also, if you have any information on RI taxes (ie: Property taxes, sales tax) I would appreciate it. We have 4 school age children so schools are of utmost importance.

Any information would be appreciated. The area of RI would have to be within commuting distance to Providence and the airport.

Thanks,
Connie

Make sure to do your research into RI. My husband and I went to college there and looked extensively into moving out of NJ, due to the cost of living, and relocating our family to Rhode Island. We also needed to be near Providence and TF Green. We were amazed to find that RI comes pretty darn close to NJ as far as real estate prices in areas with the better school systems, and also has sky high property taxes (we didn't look at a single house in the Warwick/East Greenwich/Cranston area with taxes under $8,000-$9,000 per year). We also found the state overall to have a mediocre public school system at best, and were shocked to find as we spoke to residents the heavy reliance on private and catholic schools even with such high property taxes. I don't know much at all about NC, but you will definately stretch your dollar further there.

Connie,
We currently live in RI and are moving to NC next summer. I have lived in RI most of my life with the exception of the first five years in Portugal. To be honest, I can't really say that there is anything WRONG with Rhode Island. It has some good areas and some bad areas. I actually own a home two blocks from the projects and have not once had a problem. The ghetto is not what it used to be. You are probably wondering why we are moving then. The cost of living is just crazy. I can barely keep my head above water with the taxes and the cost of child care and the cost of EVERYTHING,not to say that RI is not for you though. I would be glad to give you more specifics if you would like, feel free to email me and I will assist you with what I can.

Christina

Hey man-

I used to live in Cranston-right on the warwick/cranston line near The Pontiac school and across from what used to be the drive-in. (199 North Street) There used to be a gas station nearby - but it burned down right before we moved.

Boy- do I miss Little Rhody. We moved to Ma when I was 7 and I've missed it ever since. Rhode Island is like a big neighborhood and the people there are so down to eath and friendly. I can still walk into the greenwood inn and my dad's old buddies still recognize me and and treat me like their own kid.

I miss that "big family" atmosphere of RI-- The people in MA are so materialistic and stuck up it's not funny- we never knew what rich was- then we moved to the suburbs of boston and the only thing that mattered was what car your drive or how rich your father was. I miss all the old fav
s- Dell's ,weinies, clam cakes-rocky point-ect- I consider myself lucky to have been born and partially raised there- I always will consider RI my home and it will always be a part of me. I've lived all over the country since then and nothing will ever compare to those summer nights, laying on top of my father's station wagon -eating superior bakery pizza and weinies and watching the movie at the drive in- and of course- falling asleep halfway through the movie.

My sisters and I went to St Josesph's catholic school and they attended Prout memorial and Tolgate. I still have nightmares from the nuns and their beatings, but I guess it kept me from having any disiplinary problems throughout my remaining years of school.

My cousins still live in the area and we try to get back for reunions- but sometimes it get tough with all our schedules.

hey- have a weinie for me ok? I'm gettin a massive craving for one and it's kill'in me !
