Default Relocating: living in RI when working in Groton, CT..?

Hello, my family & I may be relocating for a job for my husband in Groton, CT. I am a stay at home mom. We are from Maine & don't want to live in Groton because we would like something more rural. A friend of mine told me to check out RI. We'd like to find something within an hour. We are young family (25 years old with a 3 year old) so we will be looking to rent (preferably a house). So taking all that into consideration I was wondering what towns you would suggest?

There are parts of Groton that are rural. Stonington is also beautiful and very rural. Anywhere in southern RI would also work for you- it will probably become an issue of finding something you like at a price you can live with. Cast a fairly wide net because there aren't that many houses for rent.
That area of RI has URI which puts pressure on the rental market and rents are not low.

If you are considering Groton, and looking to rent a house, your best options are within CT. The commute from areas north and west of Groton is fine. Avoid New London, but Danielson is relatively rural (comparitively) and the commute is under an hour.

If you really want rural i would look into the area along the north south border between the 2 states. I am from a southern rhode island town but now live in extreme northern maine. I used to drive every back road along the border, voluntown, jewett city, griswold and others have lower taxes and are quite rural.Remember that living in the same state that you work saves time at tax time, also when regerstering vehicles, and other assorted licenses. There are allot of other towns like occum and such that i have forgotten the names of. Spend the time to find just the right place for you.consider all aspects of a location, school distances, high speed avalibility, fire protection, store and hospital locations.access to highways. Like the other poster here said stonington and north stonington are sweet but watch out for higher taxes.Good luck
