Default Need 411 on Warren, RI

Hello All, we're thinking of moving to Warren and wanted to know if it was a good place to raise kids. We have 3 (daughter 10 years old, and sons 8 & 6). There is a possibility that my job might take us to that area, and any info would be helpful.
Thanks!

Warren is a quirky little town lodged in between it's two neighbor towns, Barrington and Bristol. While Barrington is very 'pristine' and Bristol is quite 'historical' Warren is a bit of a mix. For example, it has a nice historical district with lots of antique shops etc. And while you walk around there you might end up running into the sewage treatment plant.

I must say though I enjoyed living there, everything was very laid back, you're close to the bus route which goes between Providence and Newport (if you want to commute to either) and it's generally very safe.

The only issue I would have with raising kids there is the school system. I've heard quite a few times that the schools in Warren aren't too great and lack funding. So I would maybe check into that. Somebody else on this forum might have a better idea.

For some general info, go check:
Warren Headlines

It's the website of the local newspaper. Gives you a pretty good feel though of what goes on in town.

Unfortunately, the schools in Warren are not very good. I lived in Bristol for 27 years (moved recently to CA) and raised my son there. It is a great place to raise children EXCEPT for the school system. Bristol and Warren regionalized around 1994 and the schools went downhill rapidly. I pulled my son out and sent him to private schools. If you can afford this, it is a way to go. It is unfortunate because Bristol and Warren are both beautiful places with wonderful family atmosphere and connections. They just can't pull it together in the schools. Good luck to you!

Default P.S. re Warren

I forgot to mention this. Barrington (right next to Warren) has a great public school system. If your employment relocates you to Warren you could opt to live in Barrington which is only a few miles away....but a bit more expensive.
