There are some really beautiful places in Warwick, especially on the water. One thing that really sucks about Warwick is the traffic. I know that its a problem everywhere, but every time I am there I am stuck in traffic. You also need to be aware that the airport is there, and its really annoying to hear planes taking off and landing all the time.

If you're moving your family from the north shore of LI, then I suggest you look at Wakefield. It has all the shopping you're accustomed to and plenty of take-out places, the city (Providence) is a short 40 min drive (except during rush hour - which really is only an hour, unlike NY areas) and has the Providence Place mall for your upscale shopping needs, Manhattan is a 3 hr train trip out of Kingston Station or a 3.5 hour drive. There's a Stop&Shop in Narragansett, and the beaches are a short 15 min drive. In fact, if you're professionals, I'd recommend looking out Biscuit City Rd area of South Kingstown (Wakefield is a village in SK) by the university or even looking in PeaceDale at The Oaks - easy enough for the kids to ride their bikes to Wakefield.

There are many nice communities in Warwick, just as there are 'bad'. Pawtuxet Village/ Gaspee is a wonderful area, as is Governor Francis. Cowesett Hills is also nice and nearer to East Greenwich, which, IMO, is the best city to live in RI! Overall, I rate Pawtuxet Village/ Gaspee & Governor Francis the best area to live in Warwick. But if you have children, the schools need improvements, mainly the middle/high schools.

and I would consider Warwick Neck one of the nicer areas. However, the traffic getting to there is horrendous and that's one of the biggest reasons we moved south to NK. The other reason was Warwick's beaches just lack....................everything and we had to move to the southern half of NK to find a nice beach for children. The NK town beach is the best for little kids.
