Default car insurance in RI v MA

I'm wondering what the difference will be for car insurance if and when I move to RI from MA.

I can't say if there will be major savings in insurance costs between the two state but I can offer this. There will be more in the way of choices for insurance companies in RI vs Mass. Mass heavily regulates car insurance, therefore many of the major companies will not operate in the state. Its only in the last year or two Progressive and Geico began operations in Mass. In RI most of the major companies do operate and have for years, therefore much needed competion for rates which Mass lacks.

thanks jimrob, that's good to know. I'm a USAA member and used their insurance for years until moving to Mass because of all there regulations - they don't write policies in Mass. I'm glad to know I might be able to use USAA again in RI. I have used some ma and pop insurer for a couple of years and then switched with progressive when they started in Mass. I pay $567 for 6 months coverage. ...never an accident or ticket in my 24 years of driving. I do have some extra bells and whistles in my coverage, ...but it shouldn't have gone up $100 since my last payment 6 months ago.

You might want to call AMICA Insurance. Headquarters in Lincoln RI. Excellent rates and service for both auto and home. They write in several states too, not just RI.
