I've found a condo in the Mt. Pleasant area and will be closing on it later this month. It was my first choice among the ten or so that I looked at, and I can't wait to move in.

Thanks!

I was born and raised in Providence and will be a Rhode Islander forever even though I live in North Carolina. We left Providence for a number of reasons, mostly the inclement weather and the high cost of living which most retirees cannot manage, and to a lesser extent the left wing liberal attitude that has groped Providence and much of the State itself. If you are young, liberal, don't mind hanging around gays, gangs and illegal immigrants and can't wait to buy a snow blower... then by all means move to Providence. On the plus side you will enjoy the finest Italian cuisine offered anywhere, closeness to the beaches, shopping almost within walking distance from anywhere in the state and some very friendly people. The politics and organized crime are no worse than anywhere else so don't let those myths stop you from relocating. Unfortunetaly RI is no longer a place for Conservatives so we moved away.

I'm a licensed insurance agent in multiple states and know the markets. Except for CT and NH, you'll find the individual health insurance markets in RI, MA, VT, ME, NY and NJ completely destroyed. In those states individual carriers like you have in Arizona have left the state. In fact, for individuals and families that are not business owners, Rhode Island only has one Blue Cross company that has a handful of different plans you have to get directly from the carrier and they are very expensive. If you own a business it isn't much better. There is only one other carrier, United Healthcare here! The saving grace is that Rhode Island AT LEAST has short-term medical plans available here which makes health ijnsurance protection really affordable if you are healthy enough and can qualify for the coverage. It is a little cumbersome, because when it runs out you have to get it again. It does not automatically renew. Just giveing you the heads up on health insurance costs. Expect them to be almost as high as your rent, if you decide to relocate here. One thing you won't have to bother with which is not a good thing is "shopping around for health insurance". There is no such thing and there has been no such thing for 6 years in Rhode Island.
Is this a common assessment about healthcare to people in Rhode Island? I'm surprised about MA and other New England places being on that list.

I'd always assumed that healthcare anywhere in New England would be good...and I would have thought that more libertarian NH would have been the worse.
