Hello everyone! My husband and I are considering a move to RI. I work in the Back Bay, so it would be most ideal for me to take the Amtrak for the commute to Boston (especially on the way home, given the Bos-Pvd trains are only 30 mins on Amtrak). I am aware of the differences in prices for parking and the Amtrak pass versus MBTA, and I have looked into the S. Attleboro MBTA. My biggest concern/question is the actual traffic getting in and out of the parking garages by the train in Providence. I called the station and they stated the garage is full daily by 7am, which wouldn't be an issue, but I am wondering if you sit for 10+ minutes waiting to get in or out of the parking garage during the morning and evening commute times? I plan to go test it out, but wanted to check here to see if anyone could share their experiences.
I can't speak for the lines there, but you have the option of parking at the Providence Place Mall, also. And there is a new station in Warwick near the airport, depending on where you wind up living.
Anyways, if you are going to be in the parking garage well before 7 AM, I don't see the issue with traffic in the morning. In the PM, yes things get congested near the train station/mall. I don't know about the amount of time to exit the garage alone, but getting to 95 or 195 will put you in moderate traffic.
Have you considered living in downtown Providence and walking to the train? A lot of commuters do that.
