Debbie, $22K is not good -- it is below the poverty level which is around $29K I believe.

Since this thread is over 4 years old, it's likely that one of two things has happened to the original poster. Either he moved to Providence to find a job and he's homeless or he moved somewhere else and he's the CEO of a major corporation. So let's answer the original question in the abstract for ANYBODY still wondering. How risky is it to move to Providence without a job? I'd say that first you should try a couple of things LESS risky. How about jumping from the top of the Superman building (vacant of course) without a parachute. Or jumping the fountain at Caesars Palace on a motorcycle.....and you're NOT Evel knievel. In fact, rumor has it that Evel's promoter told him later that he could either move to Providence without a job or make the Cow Palace jump in San Francisco, and he chose the LESS risky of the two.

OP never moved.. still lives in Connecticut.
