NW RI/NE CT Info Needed!
I'm considering moving from CO to work in Woonsocket. I see from other postings on this site that real estate and taxes are high in RI. Would I be better off living in NE CT, than in NW RI for financial reasons? Or what about southern MA? I'm single, 36, female - am I looking at being too rural to have a social life? I'm an equestrian and will need to board my horse, as well.
Any help is appreciated! Thanks....

Foster RI is AWESOME for riding
Take a look at Foster RI. Not sure what you do for a living, but for horse back riding you cant beat it, plus you are only 20 min to providence.

There are so many great places in MA or CT that have what you are looking for. Mendon, MA is a nice rural town yet not too far from Providence or Boston. All of the towns in CT bordering RI on Route 95 are beautiful. (Stonington, Mystic) You would have a longer commute though.

If you are going to work in Woonsocket, you might try some of the towns on rte 44. In particular, Putnam,CT and its environs. It is beautiful up that way and about 1/2 hr drive to Woonsocket and 1 hr to Providence.

North eastern Connecticut is more affordable then the Providence and Woonsocket areas.
Putnam CT is known as the Antique capital of the northeast- and is a very pleasant area to live. Nearby Pomfret is home to the Pomfret Academy- noted prep school. This area is very charming as well.

It's quite a ride from northeast CT if you are going to work in Woonsocket. My best advice would be north of Woonsocket, over the Mass. line. Such as, Blackstone, Bellingham, Mendon, Millville, Millbury and so forth have good highway access. Or, North Smithfield RI even, but NS is on the pricey side. From Woonsocket, you are close to Rt. 495 east and west through Mass. That's where I'd be looking. Prices in those areas within a decent commute to Woon. are going to be pricey, but MA prop. taxes are less. From CO to RI is going to be a culture shock; and the cost of owning horses in that area can be pretty steep. Land is very expensive and horse farms and pasture land are now subdivisions.

Yes but horse farms in NE CT are much more common then in Mass.
There is a ranch and horse farm in Killingly...
The ride from NE CT to Woonsocket or Providence is around 30 miles one way- not much for a person from CO
Just my thoughts

Not far for anyone in RI or CT either. I made that trip to Putnam and Pomfret for the sheer pleasure - from Providence!

Easy Commute to Woonsocket
I lived in Dayville CT and commuted to Woonsocket; 35-40 minutes tops.
FYI, if you haven't yet found a place, my house hasn't sold yet, and it has 11 acres and horses are welcome.
