There's a lot of gorgeous houses in the west end to renovate. Hope more people continue your enthusiasm!! BTW, I think the historic tax credits may get reinstated.
This was such a great thread, thought I'd try to awaken it for a few reasons.
First, my little where-to-move conundrum remains in a state of flux. Anguishing over finding the high walkability, great cultural, arts, food, shopping amenities - as close to the ocean as possible - one elementary schooler in tow along with a hope of avoiding private school - and with a manageable commute a few days a week back to western MA for business commitments. Have spent ample time in great cities, Midtown, Back Bay, Chicago, Paris, PVD, but truth be told, never actually lived outside of the burbs. Have explored Newburyport, Bristol, East Greenwich, Northampton, and West Hartford and like all of them for their own reasons, but not completely sold. One concern is that they might all quickly feel too small, making the sacrifices (trade offs) that would be involved in my move too high for too little upside . . . (Am I seeking la-la-land?) So, I would happily welcome more ideas!
Also, must know: are Alfieboy and Rnrboy indeed one and the same???
Oh I don't mind them, but when I lived there it used to be fun to have full run of the city sometimes. For one thing you could get in and out of places faster....but yeah, I was always ready when fall was coming.
Of course, since you and I are the same person, this whole conversation is an illusion! hahaha
My partner and I are moving to Providence in the next month. We have both lived in Western Mass for long periods of time and LOVE the Happy Valley, but needed a change. We have both lived in bigger cities (Portland, New York, DC, Oakland) and want something a little smaller. After lots of checking around and a visit, we decided on Providence. We have a few friends who moved to Providence after living in Western Mass. They said Prov has a bigger art scene, more things going on, and more diverse, but still a lot of the things everyone likes about Western Mass.
We'll let you know in a couple months how everything is going!
I am commuting to New Bedford every day so we would like to be in East Providence, right over the bridge. But we are, also, looking at Federal Hill, The Armory, and the East Side. So no, we haven't narrowed it down
