I don't either. But I'm from the East Side and an accent (unless fake British) is frowned upon you know

Yeah, I can't understand why. I blow the lids off of other Rhode Islander's heads when I speak due to the fact I say my R's and admit to living here my entire life. I guess it's another one of Rhode Island's many quirks, I suppose-an ample amount of accents slightly different than the next!

What makes a RIer a RIer. The willingness to pay obscene taxes, put up with obscene corruption and the willingness to have no future. Thats why I'm leaving - but wavehunter is staying.

I would say sounding like Elmer Fudd when you talk makes you a Rhode Islander.

Ok it took all the way down to the end of this thread, but I get it: it's like they call Chorizo out here in Denver. I am reading these posts bec I took a survey and it said I would like living in Rhode Island, particularly Providence. Scary, huh?

What makes a Rhode Islander...
What makes a Rhode Islander a Rhode Islander... here are my ideas:
1. You are driving somewhere out of state and see no Dunkin Donuts around and wonder how those people could possibly live there.
2. When you think summer, you think Pawsox games and Del's lemonade.
3. You tell people from out of state that you like living in Rhode Island because it's close to Boston and New York even though you haven't been to either one in five years.
4. To you, a "mixed marriage" is when your Italian grandfather married your French Canadian grandmother.
5. You pronounce the word drawer as "draw" and the word draw as "drawer".
6. You go to Haven Bros., Twin Oaks, Greggs, Newport Creamery, and Wright's Chicken Farm at least once a year.
7. You are very vocal about your opposition to casinos in RI and how evil they are, yet you go to Foxwoods at least once a month.
8. Yourself or someone you know is working or has worked in the past at Hasbro, Ann&Hope or Apex.

So true...When I travel, one of the first things I do after checking into a hotel room is reach for phone book and locate the closest Dunkin Donuts. I've been known to go well out of my way to make sure my route passes a D&D. Parts of the midwest are the worst, Cleveland and Detroit being the worst. The absolute worst is Buffalo, if you're headed there you better like Tim Hortons..
