I eat out too much, obviously....
Newport -
Yesterdays is by far my favorite. I have never had a bad meal there. It is a cozy pub style restaurant. Lots of wood, nice booths. Huge menu - lots of variety. It is a nice respite on a chilly day. Good service. Jukebox. Good for the entire family, but in a well mannered way.
Brick Alley is another nice spot. Another huge menu. Interesting salad bar - sort of early 80's. You can get a good meal here. Also has outside dining should weather permit. Always good service.
Black Pearl is always highly rated, although I did not find it to be that amazing. Pretty small, but nice interior. Menu not something I remember as striking. It's at Bannister's Wharf, close to shops.
Red Parrot is another popular spot. I found it to be too large and loud, but that may just have been a busy weekend. Nothing that I would exclaim over menu wise, but I know many who really like this restaurant.
Candy Store - Candy Shop (can't remember) was my favorite until I went to Yesterday's. Fun spot on the Wharf. Really good food. Always found the servers to be a tiny bit snobby...Good fries.
Middletown -
Blue Plate Diner is a nice diner. Always consistent, nice menu options. Cool stainless steel coffe cups - not sure why I mention that, I just think they have paid attention to details.
Lots of the usual chains here. For some reason, the Ruby Tuesday's here is mcuh better than others I have been to - not sure why.

My favorite is also Yesterday's. Actually, to be technical about it, it's The Place, which is the sit-down restaurant at Yesterday's. Portions are deceptively large and very tasty. I've always had the same waiter there... maybe he owns a piece of it, I don't know... but he never writes down any part of any order and gets everything 100% correct every time.

I visited the BLUE PLATE DINER, in Middletown, October 2006, and found it to be pretty nice. I went back twide this year in October 2007, and I could not even find the fish in the plate! Twice, I was given almost no food. After leaving the place, I literally had to go to another place to eat, because I was hungry. I know food has gone up in price, but please, GIVE ME A BREAK! Needless to say, I am not returning for a while.
