I made a trip to the Wakefield DMV this morning to get my daughters license renewed, and I've got to tell you I was impressed as all heck with the changes since the last time I was there, which was several years ago. I always prefered the Wakefield registry, but this mornings visit was actually a pleasure!

When you first walk in, instead of taking a number and waiting, you are greeted by a receptionist type that makes sure you have all your paperwork completed and gives you your waiting number when you're ready to go. They had four open windows, and I think we waited less than 10 minutes before our number was called. The woman who waited on us was very helpful and cheerful, and I noticed while waiting that that seemed to be the case with all four of the tellers - a HUGE change from the cranky and arrogant DMV worker types that I've dealt with all my driving life.

In total, we were in and out in about 20 minutes, and I was thrilled to death with the entire experience. I don't know if it's like this at all the registry offices these days, but kudos to whoever is managing the Wakefield office. A friendly and efficient RI DMV - imagine that!

The DMV in Cranston is waaaaaay better now too. Chafee should get credit, but as always, he won't.

Really? The last time I was in there, it was an absolute zoo. As it was when it was in Pawtucket, both the old Apex building and the other place as well. I'm glad to hear that we're finally changing them for the better. I'll be sure to offer our thanks to Mr Chafee the next time I see him!

Well it has a lot more traffic than Wakefield I'm sure. But it is much more efficient than it was prior to Chafee's tenure when his Administration began overhauling things.

I remember when I used to have to go to the one in West Warwick before it closed. Godawful! Things are much better now.

We spent 4 hours in Cranston one day and 20 minutes in Wakefield the second day. Though all employees were very helpful the time we waited at Wakefield was far more acceptable.

Four hours?? When was this, and what were you there for? My wife got her license renewed last year and we were in and out in half an hour!

If you go 15 minutes before closing, you're pretty much guaranteed a quick visit. I usually went to Cranston when they closed down the WW one, but did go to Middletown once and got there about half an hour before opening. There were people with lawn chairs in the parking lot who had been there a WHILE. But, once the doors opened, we were in and out in under half an hour.

I'll take any of them over the fiasco that was Pawtucket!

You misread. I said "I usually went to Cranston when they closed down the WW one,".. I went there after they closed WW.
