"According to a confidential memo emailed by failed Providence Mayoral candidate Lorne Adrain on Tuesday to a group of 29 including a number of former top level staffers to David Cicilline, the group’s goal is to create a 501(c)(4) fund – a fund that would not have to disclose its members."

Surprise surprise. A bunch of elitist East Siders many whom are tied to the disgraced former mayor David Cicilline. And Myrth York, oh Dear Lord help us all! Buddy wasn't perfect, but he did FAR more good than bad. He loves the city. Ciccilline and his bunch, totally content at sipping their glasses of merlot in the E Side, while the rest of the city rots away. Such a wonderful bunch.

It was in all the newspapers at the time; did you not read the accounts back then?

I don't understand why you're even questioning it. It's a matter of public record; there were witnesses, there was testimony. Buddy and the others involved talked to other people about what happened. If it wasn't reported in all the newspapers, do you think Buddy would have had to resign? Buddy never denied it happened, just disputed some of the details.

(Also, I have come to realize that "notoriously biased" to you means anyone who reports something you don't like to read. The Providence Journal is the local paper of record but the Journal employed Stanton, who printed facts you don't like, so therefore nothing from the Journal can be cited. Convenient.)

I'll see if I can find Clinton Inc at the library but there's no way I believe Hillary (or anyone) admitted for the record that she had an affair with Vince Foster and that it wouldn't make the newspapers if she did.

I still don't what it has to do with Buddy though; Buddy wasn't arrested because he had an affair, he was arrested because he assaulted someone.

(I also think it's interesting how you and QuilterChick presume to know so much about my political persuasions based on my not wanting to vote for Buddy; I didn't vote for Hillary either.)

Smart move. I wouldn't want a donation to defeat Cianci made public either; we all know how vindictive he can be. No doubt some of these people are engaged in business in and with the City of Providence.

I was very young back then, but none of the articles (including the archive posted by NEGuy) suggested anything like that. My parents lived in Providence for part of his first term. My father who is a very old school Democrat and was generally critical of Buddy (had one or two negative interactions), had absolutely no knowledge of these "facts". During his 2nd term, he admitted that Buddy had been "very good for Providence" (possibly due to him disassociating himself with the Republican Party lol). They were allegations, clearly the court didn't buy them. Is one not innocent without being convicted or proven guilty? He admitted to assault, and no one here is denying it. The problem I have is allegations (or "testimony") being presented as "facts". And when the media presents such accusations as facts (especially without presenting the other side of the story), yes that is biased coverage. The Providence Journal was still a respectable paper back then, but hasn't been for years.

And when did I "presume" anything about your political persuasions? I can tell you, that I have been labeled quite a bit on here without cause.

Ha ha ! Most of them are attorneys, including some senior partners of firms in the City. Attorneys often advise others to 'not put anything in writing {secrets} that can come back to bite you'.

All that means is that you didn't vote for Hillary in the Dem primary; and sure as heck you didn't vote for McCain in the general election! Hopefully for the sake of this country, there won't be an opportunity for anyone to vote for her in the next election.

Interesting; pot to kettle.

So I guess the take-away from the above is: be careful what you wish for.

I don't know about how much merlot 'lil cheech sipped, but I do know he had
chauffered police escorts to gay Boston strip clubs. And that his brother was
charged with cocaine trafficking, and tax evasion, along with 3 Providence
policemen who were in his inner circle.. all charged with dealing coke including
his personal driver.

You've lost me. When you say the papers didn't suggest anything like "that", what "that" are you referring to?

I was referring to the assault, DeLeo being held against his will, and the mis-use of a police officer during the assault. I thought that's what you were referring to also, because you said "I guess you could say the same thing in return, as you seem SO sure that Buddy "kidnapped" DeLeo and "misused the police". I mean, that must have been reported in EVERY major paper right (not just in a book written by Mike Stanton and a few notoriously biased newspapers relying on it as their sole source of info.)??"

So, yes, that was in all the papers. You've got the wrong end of the stick by the way. Papers aren't relying on Stanton's book. Stanton was a newspaper reporter at the time, and reported the story back then, along with all the reporters. None of this is "new".

As to being innocent until being convicted, again you've lost me because he WAS convicted. That is how he became a convicted felon, and why they had to change the law so he could hold office again. Ironically, he had been strongly in favor of disallowing felons to hold office previously! Also ironically, the second time he ran, he couldn't vote for himself. Although they changed the law so convicted felons could hold office, they still couldn't vote. Since that time, they've changed the voting rules as well.

So, you've got a conviction, Buddy's own admission, sworn statements from those involved, published interviews with named sources? What will it take? Honestly, there is no other side of the story here. He did it and admits it. if by "that" you meant that you didn't believe Buddy had affairs, that was in his own testimony in his divorce.

The Hillary comparison is a square peg that doesn't fit a round hole. There are rumors from conspiracy theorists she had an affair with Foster and had him killed for some convoluted reason, but contrary to what QuilterChick said, she never publicly admitted that. But whether or not she had an affair, Buddy wasn't kicked out of office for having an affair. It was for committing a crime. The attempted comparison doesn't work. (Actually, it works against you and your 'Buddy is innocent until proven guilty' line of reasoning - because Buddy was proven guilty. Hillary never was, so therefore must be innocent).

I just don't see the relevance of this national politician to this local debate. If Bill Clinton had been convicted for assaulting Vince Foster for having an affair with Hillary, yeah, then it would be a fitting comparison, but since none of that happened....

I guess suicide and unexpected death is such a hard thing for people to accept, that people spin these stories, whether it be Vince Foster, Kurt Cobain, Brian Jones or Jim Morrison. And in Hillary's case, there are lot of people that hate her, just like there are a lot of people who hate Courtney Love, so they would rather believe the worst. No doubt we will soon hear theories that Robin William's death was murder.

Is it 5 o'clock where you are? I have no idea what you're talking about, or what McCain and Hillary have to do with Cianci. What do you mean be careful what you wish for? Who's wishing for what? No one said anything about wishing.

Buddy was convicted of assault. Not kidnapping, not abuse of police powers. Stop trying to constantly twist it into something it's not. It is obvious you are not reading the posts you respond to, which is why I'm not going to waste my time discussing this with you anymore.
