Hello, when I was a child, we visited our doctor's cottage at Common Fence Point, Newport, RI. Crossing the Mt. Hope Bridge, there was a little restaurant called the Bluebird. The Chowder, the elegant taste of that Rhode Island Chowder, differing from the Manhattan and New England tastes. So delicious. Does anyone recall that restaurant? There are stories told that the Mafia owned it and burned it down. It is mentioned in my book on Amazon.com: Mayflower Arab: A Memoir," hoping that someone has memories of this restaurant. Thx

Maybe someone else will know the restaurant, but if it was in Common Fence Point, it would have been in Portsmouth, RI.

Hello Hollytree
The doctor's cottage was at Common Fence Point, but the Bluebird was under or by the Mt. Hope Bridge, and I believe it was Bristol, RI.

Re: The Bluebird at the Mt. Hope Bridge, Bristol, RI - we used to to RI
summers, and I believe the last time would have been around 1939-1940,
so perhaps an elder person might recall al of this.

I'm from Aquidneck Island.............also lived in Bristol...............and am completely drawing a blank. I've even asked some of the more senior ladies at church. We're all drawing a blank.

There was so much destroyed in the 38 hurricane. My 1940 map of Bristol is showing nothing under the Mt Hope. bridge..........well.........except for the lighthouse.

Are you sure it wasn't Blue Bill???????? Perhaps on Blue Bill Cove (the main drag is Park Ave in Portsmouth).
Sakonnet Bridge would be in the background if you were on Park Ave facing the cove. This would be the Island Park neighborhood.

There was a Blue Bonnet restaurant in E Main Rd in Middletown. Late 1930s through 1950s.
