Help!! Where Should I Live
Moving to RI..new to area. Must be within about 10-15 min driving distance of RI hospital. Looking to rent a house at first. Wanting suburb area..great for family and kids. Thinking Warwick, West Warwick, Cranston. Any other areas? How is East Prov, Marino, Elmwood? Don't want city living or college student neighborhood.
Any advice appreciated

Elmwood is rough--I'd suggest avoiding it. Warwick is probably the best community of those you mentioned. East Greenwich, further but popular among RIH docs, is an upscale (and, hence, pricey) area that is a very good place for families. Parts of E. Prov. are nice; parts are not.

Cranston has some great areas, but the ones closest to the city are a little more dicey. You would be fine with an apartment there, though. You could shoot up Route 10 or take 95.

See my posts to the other people here, you might want to reconsider your need to be 15 minutes from the hospital and look in the Southern or others non city parts of the State to live.

I doubt you'll find what you're looking for in West Warwick.

I lived in an area of Cranston called Pawtuxet Village a few years ago. Great area - very nice houses - close to the river. We rented a 2 bedroom house for $700 a month and could see the bay from a second floor window. No idea what rents are like now. Also no clue about schools, but in general my impression (as a person without kids) is that the education system in RI is not as good as some other states.

If you're looking to stay in Providence, I'd suggest the Reservoir Triangle or the Friendly neighborhood (Friendly's the name of the neighborhood, heh) in Cranston. These are really safe suburbs, and pretty close to RI hospital (about 5 minutes away if you take 95). Auburn, which is right next to Friendly, is also a pretty nice suburb, and there's an elementary school within this neighborhood (Dutemple, I think? or Waterman?). There's also a Catholic School, St. Matthew School, in the vicinity of all these neighborhoods, and this school is really good, well kept, really nice learning environment for the kids (I went to school there for 10 years; I now go to Classical High in Providence).

Hi,
I would say the best places to live in RI are south, East Greenwich, North Kingstown (NK made the top 500 best High Schools in the US) Both of these towns (not Citys) are easy on Route 95, And great schools , very low crime rates. I would say its about 15 to 20 min ride to the hospital. But there is some bad - PRICE for all of this niceness- rents are high and house are really high.
I would stay away from providence and citys around it, if your looking for a suburb.
