Default Rhode Island for early retirement?

Not rich, but would want to buy a small house in an urban area (theatre, etc) or one with neighborhood things to walk to. Love the water. Is there a place in RI for someone not nesting or looking?

What do you pay for a two bedroom decent house in the city? Especially one that is water tight?

Providence real estate has risen in recent years because of many trying to escape the higher prices in Boston-40 minutes or so away. Although the housing slump in New England is beginning to hit us hard-so prices are dropping just about everywhere.

Downtown Providence- on the east side has many vintage single and 2 family homes-close to Brown Univ. culture, restaurants etc starting in the upper 280's.

Cranston, very nearby is another option.

I would recommend the east side of Providence, near Brown and/or Wayland Square.
