I am really happy to see that this is progressing. The ballpark nonsense may have been the project garnering all of the press over the past 6mo but this is what I've had my eye on. This could be HUGE for Providence and RI in general.

This is definitely good news, but is there any talk of retail? I'm just looking for something that would attract people who don't work or live there. I just can't get too enthusiastic about any project that doesn't include some sort of walkable destination.

Might be good news economically but are those the best looking buildings? What's that big blob on the left? And who decided that square with a hint of orange was Providence? YUCK!

Agreed. Some of the design elements are not at the top of my historical style loving self but the economic opportunity for this type of industry and infusion of jobs in this industry have me excited. Providence could use some more of this economic base to help the finances and this seems like a good long term economic driver.

The blob on the left looks like a parking garage.

Lots of tech companies across the US are housed in hideous architecture. That doesn't make it right. I wonder if there is an architectural review process for the district. Hopefully they're looking to make the architecture mesh with Providence.

This generally seems to be very positive news.

Supposedly there is an architectural approval process and a "design committee"......

Not trying to take away from the economic advantages but really we have a huge "once in a few decades" chance here to get it right!!!!

I agree. The quality of the architecture will help define the success of the area.

Hopefully that design committee is populated with accomplished architects.

Even if it doesn't directly include any retail, it will likely attract it down the road. Get good high paying jobs bringing in professionals begets things such as restaurants, retail, and housing will follow.

Imagine - businesses open roughly 260 days a year that pay most workers high wages instead of an entertainment venue open 60 days a year with most jobs at minimum wage.

It can and probably will attract it, even if it's not guaranteed. But there are already some restaurants nearby in the Jewelry District. The park will be a walkable destination, right? Retail is a different story.

Agree 100% on the benefits of a development like this vs. a minor league ballpark. Thank goodness we the people stopped(?) that boondoggle.

I dunno, I work in an office park with thousands of good, high-paying professional jobs, and there's virtually nothing around. There's a location of J's Deli, that's pretty good, easily my favorite sandwich in Rhode Island.
