It's probably way too late to ask this question, but we are in Portsmouth and would like to get to Hope St. Bristol to see the parade. (Friends live on Hope St.) We hear it's a traffic nightmare. Does it make sense to get an Uber cab, if one is available, to get from Portsmouth then another to return? We've been told people get there at 5:00 AM. We do not wish to do this. Any not-crack-of-dawn strategies or should we forget the whole thing?

what makes you think Uber will get you there more quickly? they are going to be in the same traffic as you would be in your own car. If you have friends to visit on Hope Street I would take a RIPTA bus. Still plan to get there early, but nowhere near 5 am. 60 Providence / Newport

The 60 will be running via Metacom Avenue about 3/4 of a mile from the parade route (or if you get off at Gooding Ave & Hope St, it's a half mile from the starting point).

Hope St. is pretty long so it would be helpful if you could note where exactly on Hope St. your friends live. I grew up at the beginning of Hope St. near the Lobster Pot Restaurant, so if your friends live near that end I would suggest after going over the Mt. Hope Bridge you travel Rt. 136 and either take your 1st left on Griswold Ave., or 2nd left on Woodlawn Ave. and park on either of these streets and walk down to Hope. If they live further down Hope past downtown and beyond it will be much more difficult for you to get decent parking close to your friend's home unless you head out very early.

People do indeed get to the parade route before 5:00 am and park in front of where they want to put their chairs down because the town will not allow chairs being placed before 5:00 am.
