Dunno about the music, but you could check out FastNet Pub and O'Brien's Pub.

My wife's family is from Rhode Island, so we have vacationed there many times. We stay with an Aunt that lives in Bristol. Bristol is definitely a must see. Colt State Park is on the Bay and a great place to spend the afternoon. While you are in Bristol, Try the Wood Street Bakery for some of the best pizza you have ever eaten. If you are a seafood fan, Wood Street Bakery also has excellent Quahogs. Newport is only about 20-30 minutes south of Bristol. Great food and atmosphere along Thames St. and the mansion tours are well worth it. Over the years, I think I've seen all of them. In Providence, the old Italian neighborhood on Federal Hill is a great place to see. The last of my wife's family moved off "The Hill" several years ago, so we haven't seen it in a while. We have heard the area is in transition. Although many of the locals joke about it, a daytrip aboard the Bay Queen out of Warren to Newport, is a very relaxing and fun way to spend the day.

Absolutely. The rockfish (striped bass) are back (small ones that lead the migration). A good early season spot is Second Beach, the east end by Sachuest National Wildlife Refuge. The stone jetty at Brenton Point is good. Closer to town, there's Kings Park Beach and Fort Adams State Park. He can walk to Kings Park Beach.

Hi,
I definetely would check for a Waterfire event in Providence. Google for event calendar.
Newport is a must in the summer. Go to Bowens Wharf in Newport, get a cup or bowl of the infamous chowder at the The Black Pearl Restaurant or just stroll around and window shop at the numerous shops. Or, book a sunset cruise aboard the sailboat "Madeleine" and take in the sights of Narragansett Bay.
Stay at many of the historic inns in Newport, such as the Harborside Inn or the Jailhouse Inn.
Newport is the jewel of New England.

For such a small state, there really is a lot to see in Rhode Island. I used to do most of my road trips in Northern New England, but now I find myself going more and more to both RI and CT. For me, here are some must sees if you have three days:
RISD Art Musuem, Providence
East Bay Bike Path, Providence to Bristol
Newport mansions
Farmstands, etc. along Route 77 in Tiverton and Little Compton
Antique shopping in Chepachet
Beaches around Misquamicut and Watch Hill
Trip out to Block Island
Shopping, picture-taking, around Wickford
Lighthouse, Jamestown
And being the owner of a restaurant review Web site, I have a number of good dining spots that I like in RI:
Mexico Garibaldi, Atwells Avenue, Providence
Camille's Roman Garden, Bradford Street, Providence
Apsara, Public Street, Providence
Sardella's, Memorial Boulevard, Newport
Quito's, waterfront, Bristol
Modern Diner, East Avenue, Pawtucket
Have fun!
