I reserved a rental car to be picked up and dropped off at Theodore Green Airport. They added a note about getting a PlatePass (extra fee) for driving on cashless toll roads. ARE there any cashless toll roads near the airport or in MA?
The only toll road I remember was the Mass Pike, and that was a looooong time ago.
Where are you going? The only toll in Rhode Island is the Pell Bridge, Route 138 from Jamestown to Newport. You can pay cash, so no need for PlatePass. In Mass., the toll roads are the Mass Pike; the Callahan, Sumner, and Ted Williams Tunnels; and the Tobin Bridge. There is no more cash option, but you may be able to create a pay-by-plate account at EZDriveMA.com to avoid the PlatePass fees.
I do not need to drive any of those roads. I might have used the Mass Pike if it allowed cash pay, but I can use a different route if necessary. Will be in the southcoast to some Boston suburbs but not Boston itself, let alone Logan.

Thanks for the info.
You shouldn't need to worry about tolls then. Your GPS may want you to get on the Mass Pike (I-90) for a bit depending on which Boston 'burbs you're heading to (i.e. Framingham, parts of Newton, etc.), but you can set your GPS to avoid toll roads and you won't be adding too much time onto your route.
Ha, I don't use GPS for navigating. Old-fashioned road maps studied in advance. And that reminds me, I will have to bring my own because rental companies don't seem to give them out anymore.
AAA maps and Triptiks, here I come. I enjoy poring over maps ahead of time anyway. Saving a few minutes of time is less important (for this trip) than taking less crowded, more scenic ways when possible. I've never been to Tiverton even though it is so close to where I used to go to get a beach fix (Horseneck Beach). I'll plan on making a little side trip over there. Is Gray's ice cream still as good as it used to be?
Gray's ice cream is still good & the area still beautiful but I consider their ice cream a bit pricey. If you haven't been in a long time, you'll find out.....
I drove from RI to Natick then Worcester and ended up with a $2.50 toll fee. I think it was the Natick to Worcester route.
I don't mind paying a reasonable toll, if it is paid in cash right there, not billed later on or requiring transponders, plates, or other bricabrac.
Having bicycled thousands of miles when living in MA, I know alternative routes to toll roads. They're more interesting anyway. I expect to get a few memory jolts upon seeing businesses that I have forgotten about.
