I like it. The guy's a Providence native and developer in Cambridge. Public access to the riverwalk will be maintained and he's flexible on design. Objections are from neighbors losing their view, a flea market operator and art sculptors. Not good enough in my opinion. No proposal will ever garner universal support.
This would be a major score for Providence. In a perfect world, we'd get high paying jobs and property taxes but low paying jobs and property taxes are better than nothing.

The vacant I-195 land was to be a catalyst for economic growth such as new construction outside of the 19 acres of vacant land. The idea of "build it and they will come" is completely lost here.

I'm not sure that I understand your premise, would you care to elaborate? Thanks

development has to be more than just the vacant I-195 land. This hotel is just off that 19 acres and the city needs construction that this hotel represents. Built on vacant land that has been available but not improved. Similar to the parking lots that define the Pine and Friendship Street area. Those two street have always presented themselves as a backside to the city. A buffer of parking lots between the city and the Jewelry District. But they were unimproved lots that no one was willing to speculate with new construction. Hopefully as this hotel is built more outside speculators will invest in the city.
