Now I remember the place (on Diamond Hill Rd, had forgot the name)! But yes I would definitely rank that up there!

I think I have been to the Tiverton one (has it been there a while?) years ago, but no I don't remember it being all that great.

Yeah. Their website says 1923. Their Bristol location is relatively recent. Again, nothing special though.

Have been to the original Gray's in Tiverton and felt it did not meet the expectations of its reputation.

The Gray's in Bristol recently moved across the parking lot and is now on the first floor of the hotel. Their former building location on the boardwalk is now part of a special events tent complex.

The Ice Cream Machine is on Diamond Hill Road/Route 114 directly across from Diamond Hill Park (where many park their cars and walk across the street). I believe it makes its own ice cream and actually sells to other local shops.

The only one I've ever been to is the Ice Cream Machine and it's very good.

Lots of love for Ice Cream Machine here! I have a couple of friends who live nearby to it who also sing its praises. I will have to make it up there!

Ok, I'm a little surprised there isn't any love for Three Sisters Ice Cream on Hope Street in Providence. They make interesting flavors, many of which are really tasty. I like their green tea ice cream in particular...

Thanks for this useful thread!

My diet is changing so haven't explored as much as I would have liked to in the past few years. My two regular spots:

Three Sisters by the PVD/Pawtucket line.
Sunshine Creamery in East Providence

Former is excellent, with prices to match; latter won't knock your socks off, but is solid, cheap, and nighttime brings the classic getting-eaten-by-bugs-outside-a-shack experience, without which it wouldn't be summer.

Places I expected to be better than they were, given the effort to get to them:
Aunt Carrie's in Narragansett
Ice Cream Barn in Swansea (also too expensive for what it offers)

Favorite in the region: Peaceful Meadows on Route 18 in Whitman.

Related: Wayland Square Diner makes a good Raspberry Lime Rickey.
