It sounds to me like this "nonpartisan" think tank leans Right.

all very interesting, i'm looking into NH now too, the taxes in the northeast scare me in general, but i'm thinking that if the taxes help pay for better schools, better quality of life??? (I know this to be untrue of soCA, we payed up the wazoo there but got nada in return) ! but i do miss new england and think i would like to come back eventually.

The answer is: it depends. Overall, schools in RI are just OK--national state rankings usually put RI in the middle of the pack. But there are some towns in RI with excellent schools. So the AVERAGE taxpayer in RI compared to the AVERAGE taxpayer in a low tax state (like, say, Wyoming or Alabama) has a good chance of finding that, on AVERAGE, the schools are a little better. But the key is AVERAGE. There are places in RI with high taxes and lousy schools; there are places in Wyoming with low taxes and good schools.

The Professor has hit on a good point here. Taxes only help if they are spent well. When I lived abroad taxes were high, but the services rendered were phenomenal.

Most Americans don't realize that it's not the taxes here they hate, it's the misspending of their hard earned dollars.
