Hello. Does anyone have suggestions for living spaces and/or hiking spots in Providence? Parks, river, any place that is green and not teeming with traffic (pedestrian and automobile) that blots out some of the noise/distractions of the city..... I am a writer relocating and looking for some peaceful vibes, a good place to meditate outside late mornings if possible.
In terms of Providence proper, the most peaceful for your purposes might be around Roger Williams park. Might be reasonably priced too. Areas of the East Side near Blackstone park, Grotto, Swan Point peaceful but expensive.
If you get outside the urban core to the ring towns, you will only be 5-10 min away:
1. Slater park, Pawtucket
2. Haines Memorial park, East Providence and areas near the East bay bike path (Riverside, Warren, Bristol)
3. West Barrington area. Barrington proper too-- peaceful but can be expensive.
4. Goddard Park area in Warwick.
5. Seekonk, MA
It would help to know your budget, buying or renting....
If you mean walkable to Providence, there is no place that I know of near ( the bay?) water for that budget. if you mean walkable to some kind of shopping and bus, then I would look at my #2 suggestion above. Try Craigslist for Riverside, then look at the property on Google maps to see where it is vis a vis the waterfront. You might get a 1-2 bed apt for around $800. The area I'm thinking of is an area that used to be recreational part year summer beach cottages, now occupied year round. It is a safe area.
Slater park in Pawtucket has a pond in the middle & the area around it is affordable.... Roger Williams Park has a big pond too (not as safe a neighborhood).
The Darlington neighborhood in Pawtucket has good public transportation, is walkable and pretty affordable, and has Slater Park. Step onto the Ten Mile River Greenway and you feel like you've stepped into another world, very calm and peaceful, lot's of wildlife. Other than that, the East Side of Providence too is walkable with good PT and you have Swan Point, Blackstone Park and Lippit Park.
