Public beaches, except for the town beach, can be rocky at the shoreline. The private beaches have plenty of sand.
It is true it has a very small town center.
I don't particularly like Adamsville, tad too close to Fall River, but to each his own.
Adamsville to the Market Basket on the Tiverton line is 15 minutes. I have a few friends in the Acoaxet part of Westport where you have to drive through Adamsville. That’s another 5 minutes. That’s another planet from Fall River.

I understand the concerns about the part of Tiverton near/bordering Fall River, but the Adamsville section of Little Compton is nowhere near Fall River. It's at least 8 miles away.
That's like saying you don't like Barrington because it's too close to Providence.

It's also quite bucolic, particularly away from the coast.
"Like Oak Bluffs, Newport is a beach town known for its houses, though a very different sort. Ten enormous, historic mansions—once the summer homes of the Vanderbilts, Nevada silver heiresses, and other Westerners of unimaginable wealth—remain standing along the famous cliff walk. Today however, they are museums. The most famous two are The Breakers and Rosecliff. The Newport mansions famously earned the ire of writer Joan Didion, who wrote in her essay The Seacoast of Despair, “To stand in the dining room of ‘The Breakers’ is to imagine fleeing it, pleading migraine.” Today, in lieu of the Great Gatsby-esque lawn parties of yore where swans roamed the grounds, Newport attracts visitors of all stripes for events such as the Newport Folk Festival."
You really have to wonder whether somebody has a dart board (at best) or is incredibly cynical (at worst) when they put together these crazy lists. There is no doubt that Narragansett is a beautiful town, but it takes third behind two fabulously wealthy towns, with Nantucket being the home - literally - to dozens of billionaires, and Carmel - I'm sure - closely following. As someone said earlier, I wouldn't even consider Narragansett the best coastal town in RI, given that it includes places like Little Compton and Jamestown, extraordinarily beautiful places. Oh well.
